DEATH

We ask that you have your Bible with you while studying so you may search the scriptures and see for yourself what is proclaimed from the word of God.

1. WHAT CAUSES DEATH?

James 5:20 “Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.

ANSWER: Death is caused by Sin. Sin is the transgression of the Law,

which the penalty is death.

2. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE DIE?

Genesis 3:19 “In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return"

ANSWER: Our bodies turn back into the dust of the ground from which we were taken and the spirit returns to God who gave it.

3. WHERE DO WE GO WHEN WE DIE?

Genesis 37:35 “And all his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him; but he refused to be comforted; and he said, for I will go down into the grave unto my son mourning. Thus his father wept for him.”

Genesis 50:5 “My father made me swear, saying, Lo, I die: in my grave which I have digged for me in the land of Canaan, there shalt  thou bury me. Now therefore let me go up, I pray thee, and bury my  father, and I will come again.”

John 6:49 “Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead.”

ANSWER: When we die our bodies go into the grave, and turn into the dust from which we were made. It is then our spirit goes back to God who gave it.

4. WHAT IS DEATH COMPARED TO IN THE BIBLE?

Deuteronomy 31:16 “And the LORD said unto Moses, Behold, thou  shalt sleep with thy fathers; and this people will rise up, and go a  whoring after the gods of the strangers of the land, whither they go  to be among them, and will forsake me, and break my covenant  which I have made with them.”

1 Corinthians 15:51 “Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed.”

ANSWER: Death is referred to as a Sleep.

5. DO WE KNOW OR DO ANYTHING WHILE WE ARE IN THE GRAVE?

Psalm 146:4 “His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish”

Ecclesiastes 9:5, 6 “For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not anything, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. Luke 20:38 “For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him.”

Mark 12:27 “He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living: ye therefore do greatly err.”

ANSWER: At the moment when we die, our thoughts perish. We do not praise God, nor know anything from our former life. There is no communication between the living and dead. The Bible clearly states that there is no consciousness or awareness of anything when we die.

6. WHO BRINGS THE DEAD UP FROM THE GRAVE AND WHEN?

Acts 2:29 “Men and brethren, let me speak freely to you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulcher is with us into this day.”

John 5:28, 29 “Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in which all that are in the graves shall hear His voice, and shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and the that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation”

1 Thessalonians 4:13-17 “But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as other which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with Him. For this we say into you by the word of the Lord, for we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, and with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord”

1 Corinthians 15:51-55 “Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible shall put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.”

2 Peter 3:9, 10, 11, 12, 13 “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward,  not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise. And the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat. Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

1 Thessalonians 1:10 “And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.”

Luke 20:37, 38 “Now that the dead are raised, even Moses shewed at the bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him.”

Luke 20:35 “But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage.”

Philippians 3:11 “If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.”

1 Corinthians 15:42 “So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption.”

Ephesians 5:14 “Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.”

ANSWER: It is God who will bring the righteous dead out of the grave on the last day. All of the dead are to remain in the grave until that appointed time. It is then that the dead in Christ shall rise. At this time the corruptible puts on incorruptibility and the mortal puts on immortality.

7. SINCE EVERYONE WHO DIES REMAINS IN THE GRAVE UNTIL THE LORD COMES, WHEN DO THE RIGHTEOUS GO TO HEAVEN?

1 Thessalonians 4:16, 17 “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.”

2 Thessalonians 2:8 “And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming.”

1 Corinthians 15:42 “So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption.”

1 Corinthians15:54 “So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying  that is written Death is swallowed up in victory.”

Revelation 20:5 “But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.

Revelation 20:6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, But they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years”.

ANSWER: The righteous go to heaven when the trump of God is sounded at his second coming. First, the righteous dead are raised from their graves, and then the righteous living are caught up with them in the clouds to be with the Lord. At this, time all of the righteous put on incorruption and are given immortality and recieve their rewards according to their works.  They are then taken back to heaven to reign with God for 1000 years. The living wicked have been destroyed by the brightness of his coming while the wicked dead have remained in their graves. The wicked do not live again until the 1000 years are finished.

8. WHAT HAPPENS WHILE THE RIGHTEOUS ARE WITH GOD DURING THE 1,000 YEARS?

Revelation 20:1 I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.

Revelation 20:2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,

Revelation 20:3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.

Revelation 20:6 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

ANSWER: An angel comes down from heaven and bounds satan for 1000 years and sets a seal upon him that he should deceive the nations no more, in which he is unable to do because they are all dead. The righteous who went back to heaven live and reign with Christ.

9. WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE 1000 YEARS?

Revelation 20:5 “But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.

Revelation 20:7 “And when the thousand years are expired, Satan, shall be
loosed out of his prison,

Revelation 20:12 “And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.”

Revelation 20:13 “And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.

and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them.”

Malachi 4:1 For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.

Malachi 4:2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth and grow up as calves of the stall.

Malachi 4:3 And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts.

ANSWER:  The bible stated that the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were expired. Satan is not destroyed at the second coming of God, he is bound by an Angel to a bottomless pit during the 1000 years.

Once the 1000 years are expired, the wicked dead are raised, this is this is the first resurrection of the wicked and Satan is loosed an then goes out over the entire earth to deceive the nations to gather them together to battle and encompass the camp of the saints. The wicked are then judged according to their works.

Fire is then reigned down from God and devours them. Whoever was not found written in the book of life is devoured by this fire. The wicked are destroyed root and branch and are ashes under the soles of the feet of the righteous.

10. WHAT WILL GOD DO AFTER THIS?

Ezekiel 33:11 “Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel.”

beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.

Revelation 21:14And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

Revelation 21:15 And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof.

Revelation 21:17 And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred and forty and four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of the angel.

ANSWER: The wicked will have been destroyed and punished according to their works. God will wipe away all tears and there shall be no more death, sorrow crying or pain.  A new earth and heaven shall be made, the first heaven and earth are now passed away. The holy city comes down from God out of heaven, the tabernacle of God is now with men he will dwell with them and they shall be his people, God himself will be with them and be their God.

SUMMARY:  When Jesus Appears at the Second Coming, the righteous dead shall be raised first, and then the righteous living will be caught up with them to meet the Lord in the clouds. This is the first resurrection, blessed is he that hath part in it. At this time the corruptible puts on incorruptibility and the mortal puts on immortality. And thus begins the thousand year reign with God in Heaven.

The living wicked are destroyed by the brightness of his coming, and live not again until the thousand years are expired. Satan is bound to the earth, with no one to tempt he is left to contemplate the results of his work and his soon coming destruction. After the thousand years, the wicked are raised from the dead and Satan deceives them and gathers them to encompass the camp of the saints to engage in battle.

Then as the wicked are standing there before God, fire is reigned down upon them. Anyone that was not found written in the book of life is cast into the lake of fire to be burned according to their works. It is at this time that the wicked receive their punishment to be burned in hell.

The Lord God does not take pleasure in the destruction of the wicked, he pleads for them to turn from their wicked ways and live. Once this act of destruction is complete God shall wipe away all tears from the eyes of the righteous and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain, for the former things are passed away.

We hope that you have come to a better understanding of the Holy Scriptures. The Bible is the inspired word of God and was given as a light unto our paths for all who should seek him. The Bible is harmonious from the beginning to the end. The Old and New Testaments are solidified together in their message for God’s people. And perfectly reflect the plan of salvation for all mankind. God desires that we study the scriptures as someone who would seek for hidden treasures.

The Bible does not contradict itself nor is it designed to be given over to any private interpretations. It is the Bible and the Bible only! If you are unable to defend your beliefs with an “It is written” from the word of God, then perhaps a deeper searching is required to lead you into a greater light of truth. There are many teachings and beliefs that are held to as though they came from the Bible. Peter warns that there will be those that are “unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.” 2 Peter 3:16

Jesus warns “in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.”  Matthew 15:9. What the Bible teaches is more important than anything else. If what your pastor, priest, friends or family tell you contradicts what is written in the word of God, search the scriptures and “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15. You are responsible for whom you will follow.

It is you and I that will stand alone before God on the great Day of Judgment to give account of our works. Don’t let someone else tell you what the Bible says, find out for yourself and then share the truth with others. We encourage you to ask questions to your pastor, priests, and friends, and have them show you from the Bible another truth contained there in.

No where in the Bible does it say at the moment of death your spirit goes to Heaven or Hell or Purgatory. Search the scriptures and prove them, don’t rely on someone else telling you what is in the Bible, discover the truth and make a stand for it.
